The Lotus Flower in Thailand

Perfect LotusThe lotus plays a very important part in Thai life and is the country's most common flower which can be found in ponds, swamps, small canals, roadside ditches, even in urns in front of stores as you walk down the street and especially decorating almost every corner of temple grounds. The Lord Buddha used the four states of the lotus to teach his followers about the path to enlightenment. Buddha used the lotus flower to represent enlightenment. The picture is of an almost perfect Pink Lotus which is considered the supreme lotus, generally reserved for the highest deity and naturally associated with the Great Buddha himself. I took this picture in Rot Fai Park in Bangkok.

The white lotus represents the state of spiritual perfection and total mental purity.  To learn More about Buddhism in Thailand click here...
