This past week I went to Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is both a province and a city in northeast Thailand. The province is the most northeastern there is and abuts against Laos and Myanmar, and it landscape varies from the flat flood plains of the upper reaches of the Mekong as it flows from China to the amazing foot hills of the Himalayas. There are picturesque views that are truly breadth taking in almost every corner of the province. The city of Chiang Rai is just as awesome of a destination with shops, markets and bazaars to satisfy just about everyone's tastes. The picture is a monument in the center of town and kind of the city icon. The monument is of King Mengrai, who was a king in the Chiang Rai area in the early 12th century who did great deeds bringing various tribes and peoples together and protecting them against the Chinese Mongols.
I will be highlighting some of these interesting places in upcoming blogs. I hope you enjoy.
