Suan Lum Night Bazaar was Bangkok’s first ever open-air market. At its height, the bazaar was home to nearly 4,000 stalls as well as many restaurants and bars including an outdoor beer garden which offered an impressive choice of both local and imported beers. Also located on the site were the Joe Louis Small Puppet Theatre and the BEC Tero Conference Centre.
The bazaar officially opened in 2001and over the years it grew into one of the most vibrant shopping landmarks in Bangkok. The well-lit shops offered everything from fashion, furniture and jewelry to pets and sculptures.
Sadly, after nine entertaining years Suan Lum Night Bazaar is closing down due to the rental contract on the land expiring. Many of the shops have now closed, while those that remain offer a more limited selection of goods. A new site is being considered between the MRT Subway Ratchada Station and the Ratchada Criminal Court, and this will likely open in 2012 under the name Suan Lum Night Bazaar Ratchada.
