Thailand's Royal Temples

Bangkok's Wat Arun Royal temples were built or renovated by a king or built by a member of royalty or the nobility and dedicated to a king, or even built by wealthy person who requests to dedicate the temple to a king which will then have to be accepted as such. Temples in Thailand are divided into first, second and third class temples in a descending order of significance. The temples in each class are graded by a further ranking order which precisely identifies their position in the hierarchical system within the Buddhistic order.

Royal temples of the first grade were built in the Chakri Dynasty including Kings Rama I through Rama V (1782 to present). The Royal Temples were born of the Kings of the Chakri Dynasty desire to create a glorious Bangkok adorned with majestic temples.
